Tech Tool Development

The BIRD Initiative is developing open-source tools to bring Same Language Subtitling (SLS) to the entertainment industry, enabling media platforms to easily add subtitles in the content's original language.

These tools boost accessibility and promote language learning as viewers enjoy various media.

By making these tools open-source, BIRD fosters collaboration and free access, helping subtitling become a natural part of the entertainment experience.

Auto Subtitler for Indian Languages

The primary goal of PlanetRead was to develop a tool that accepts a verbatim script (A) and corresponding audio (B) to automatically generate a time-coded SLS file (C), the process would involve inputting both the script and audio via a user interface (UI) or API.

The tool will synchronize the text with the audio and create an SLS file in 12 Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Urdu, Kannada, Odia, Malayalam, Punjabi, and Assamese, as well as an English version through transliteration. This automation will significantly reduce the time and cost of manually creating SLS files for major Indian languages.

The tool is currently under active development, and we're continuing to refine its features and functionality.

3D/AR Glasses for Accessibility in Movie Theaters

An Extended Reality (XR) platform was developed that supports real-time subtitle display for users with auditory or visual impairments while watching movies or videos in a cinema environment.

The tool currently being developed supports multiple languages for transcription and
subtitle display, providing accessibility to users across different linguistic backgrounds.

The target audience for the tool includes individuals who prefer subtitles due to hearing impairments or language barriers, allowing them to have an inclusive cinematic experience

Our tool is still in the development stage and not yet ready for public/production use.

Search Indian CineTreasure

QuoDB is an online website that allows users to search for movie quotes and show results across multiple categories. We want to create a similar site which will work for Indian Language movies. Especially for Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. This will easily get the interest of so many millions of movie fans of Bollywood, Tollywood and Kollywood in India and the world. The starting figure itself could be easily 50 Million +.

The platform was designed to use Elasticsearch for semantic searches and postgres to store the metadata. The primary goals were to provide Indian cinema fans with a user-friendly interface to search movie quotes efficiently across multiple languages and to maintain a multilingual database of movie dialogues for cultural and educational purposes

We’re in the process of developing the tool, and it's not yet finalized for deployment or use.
